18U Goes undefeated in the All-Shore Memorial Day tournament

  • The 18U successfully started their 2017 campaign with a 6-0 weekend in Holmdel in the All-Shore Memorial Day tournament.

The Saturday rain-affected schedule saw the team go 2-0 with comfortable wins over Central Jersey Mayhem 9-4 and Stafford Stingrays 12-3.

Sunday began with the last of the seeding games in which Blaze mercied Lacey Storm 15-5.  Although the Blaze were 3-0, the #1 seed was lost due runs against, and we settled for the #2 seed of 7, which meant an extra game (#1 seed was awarded a bye) on the road to the championship.

In a closer game than the previous one, the Blaze was once again victorious over Lacey, 5-1.  In a semi-final rematch with Central Jersey Mayhem (facing their Sunday pitching ace), the Blaze recorded a 5-0 shutout and moved into the finals against the #1 seed, Brick Bombers.

After being down 2-0 early while leaving 10 runners on base over the first four innings, the Blaze found a way to score, and score often in route to a comfortable 7-4 Championship victory.  The team played 4 consecutive games on Sunday to earn the trophy, while fittingly displaying their new patriotic uniforms on Memorial day (check out the picture).
